The
Teacher’s Guides are designed
by our
Advisory Board to help students make the connection between the fictional storybook accounts and real life problems that are actually being experienced by people all over the world today. Our goal is for the children to recognize that, like the Doo-its in the story, they too can use their creativity and will-power to solve problems and make a difference in the world.
Teachers are free to utilize as many or as few of the 11 lessons in the teachers guide as they wish. The activities are structured to fully engage the students while incorporating the standard requirements. Some of the lessons require the students to get out of their chairs and participate in hands-on kinaesthetic learning activities. Other lessons involve reading and writing or quiet reflection and seat work.

Dewey’s Teacher’s Kits incorporate core &
McRel Standards and are taught against a backdrop of social consciousness. Each lesson includes a clear explanation of the lesson’s objectives followed by the designation of the core curriculum requirements.
The McRel Standards, (Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning,) serve both to clarify and to provide a common set of educational expectations. McRel Standards combine standards documents from professional subject-area organizations and selected state standards.

| Some educators teach all 11 lessons spreading the learning experience over a full month or longer. Other educators choose three or four of the lessons that most closely meet the educational goals of their students. The chart below is designed to aid a teacher in determining which lessons will best meet his/her students’ learning objectives. |

The story narration and
music CDs included in each Teacher’s Kits can be used in a number of ways. Here are a few suggestions:
• Play the narration track while showing the book to your students.
• Play the music tracks in the background while students work on lessons independently.
• Play the music during
lesson # 9, “Where Did it Happen? Relay Game”
• Incorporate music into Dewey’s Reader’s Theater production.
